How lessons work at Slap'n'Pop
Most music tutors specialise in one instrument. I teach across six — bass, guitar, double bass, piano, ukulele, and music theory — and there’s a reason for that. The fundamentals (rhythm, timing, theory, ear training, performance technique) apply to every instrument, and most students benefit from a teacher who can join the dots between them. A lot of people start with one instrument and add a second or third over time, and the lessons connect properly because it’s the same teacher, same approach, same studio.
One-to-one, built around you
Every session is built around what you actually want to play, what’s frustrating you, and where you’d like to be in six months. No fixed syllabus unless that’s specifically what you’ve asked for (e.g. ABRSM grade prep, GCSE coursework). No padding, no exercises you’ll never use — just the bits that move you forward.
That goes for any age and any starting point. Total beginners, improvers stuck on a plateau, advanced players prepping for auditions, kids learning their first instrument, adults rediscovering music after years away — every lesson starts where the student is.
Studio in Sheffield or online over Zoom
The studio is at home in Handsworth, Sheffield — fully kitted-out with instruments, amps, mics, and recording gear, so we can capture what you’re playing and listen back together. Hearing yourself the way other people hear you is one of the fastest ways to spot what to work on.
If Sheffield isn’t workable — distance, time of day, school run, whatever — online lessons over Zoom are a real option. Same lesson plan, same prep, same notes sent over after. Some instruments work better online than others (piano and theory are particularly easy; double bass has some limitations) and I’ll be straight with you about it before we book in.
Simple, transparent pricing
£15 for 30 minutes, £20 for 45 minutes, £25 for an hour. Same rates whether you’re in person or online, and the same regardless of which instrument you’re learning.
Your first lesson is paid as a one-off — book in, come down (or jump on Zoom), see if you like the way I teach. From there, lessons run weekly at the same time each week, and I charge in monthly blocks paid up front. Cancellations and reschedules are handled case-by-case.

Bass Guitar
